old days

as a teenager, I remember complaining a lot about school, about how much work I had and how I hated my classmates. and I also remember how my relatives would tell me, over and over, how much I’d miss those days when I got older.

little over a decade later, I would be lying if I said I don’t miss any of it at all. sure I do miss meeting my friends before class, the mess we used to make in study groups during some project, and – so lovely! – being able to sleep all morning since school didn’t start until 1pm. I miss the friends time left behind, as I miss having the time to see the friends that were allowed to stay.

on the overall, I don’t miss my life as a teenager – high school was hell on earth, after all -, but today it struck me how simple life was back then, and how much I hate to admit my relatives were right in that aspect. because in those days I was simply a student, and while there might have been one or two major school project that would’ve failed without my help, I realise today that there is an entire section in this office that simply will not run without me.

no wonder I’ve been so stressed out lately. responsibility is just way too troublesome.

hello, happy readers of rubysland! =)

long time no see, huh? I haven’t been too busy this time, just too lazy to post… of course lots of things happened in the meantime, but let me tell you about one of them.

this little one down here is Mimi.

yes, our newest resident is a cat. short version: she showed up in our garage little over a month ago, pregnant. I took her in, started to take care of her, but three weeks later she had a natural miscarriage. so last week she was spayed and now she has a home and a pink collar with a bell. she’s that fancy. ^.^

tips for new cat owners

today I came across this article, “Top 9 Mistakes by New Cat Owners”, and found it very interesting. I know most of my readers already have cats, but thought I might just share that with ya. there’s no such thing as too much information when it comes to pets. =)

and this is to Flines: yes, I am aware that disappearing posts are no fun, but I later realized that it could ruin a current project. it’ll come back eventually.

a gamer’s dilemma

Friday, September 8th, 2006 | bother! | No Comments

the past few days I’ve been facing a dilemma regarding the new Nintendo DS Lite. “to buy or not to buy: that is the question” (my apologies to Shakespeare). the problem isn’t really the buying part, although the current price is rather prohibitive – damned be you, americans, for you have both DS and Lite priced the same. no, here the difference starts at 100 reals (U$46.42, according to today’s currency rate) for *used* consoles. the real doubt was the new features: are they worth the extra money?

after doing a quick search for user reviews, I came across these three videos (please notice there’s a link on each word). and there I was convinced (and so was Etienne) that I should definitely get the DS Lite, once the price goes down some more.

however, being the ultimately anxious poor cheapskate that I am, I just bought a blue DS in mint condition for about half the price of a new Lite. okay, the money wasn’t the main issue, but, really, the DS Lite might be very awesome (as proven by the videos above), but I simply didn’t like it. the additional colours released (pink, blue, navy and black) made it a little nicer to me, but it still didn’t do it. honestly, I feel like I could smash it very easily, and that just wouldn’t be nice. =p

as per usual, my consumer side is giving me second thoughts, but the fact is that I loved the blue DS in that Animal Crossing bundle I so desperately wanted, and now I have a blue DS and an Animal Crossing: Wild World cartridge heading my way. now give me the wi-fi connector and all’s well. =)

Rolling Stones – Sympathy for the devil

wow, must’ve forgotten this thing existed. I’m not sure what’s to blame for this huge hiatus, my laziness or sheer lack of time. yes, because I now work from 9am to 6pm every weekday, and at night I’m either too tired or too busy with something else. I tell you, life was a lot simpler when it was just college taking up (some of) my time. but, of course, back then I didn’t have any money.

okay, quick recap, shall we?
I got a nice job at the end of march, and begun working in the first week of april. I work at a small publishing house, in the web department – see, I’m a department! -, mainly doing the website maintenance, keeping it updated, taking care of the e-mail marketing… it’s just a lot of different little tasks.

if you remember, I also got in the freelance business, creating websites. that didn’t work out too well, since I still only have two customers, but it’s fun and keeps me busy. it’s not enough to make a living, but it gives me money for hobbies.

some other minor changes are that I started learning french in may, and have been wearing braces since… last tuesday. nothing serious, but it was about damn time I got my teeth fixed. =P

I thought about a lot of things I could do with rubysland. I installed a gallery with Justin’s help, and I’ve been thinking about writing a few posts regarding past happenings and backdate them for chronological purposes. just to give you nice people something to read. and, of course, there’s the new layout and all those other things I mentioned somewhere before.

hm… okay, that’ll be it for now. with some luck I won’t take too long to show up next time. e.e;
